Your Guide To A Better Open Water Swim: Everything you need to consider in training to make your
next open water swim safer, stronger, and more enjoyable.
Introduction by the author, Mat Hudson:
Swimming is attractive for so many reasons. Yet, it remains a difficult skill to master, and it is more challenging to do well in open water. With the increased popularity of triathlons and open water activities, more people than ever are trying it, then encountering great stress and the fact that it deserves a lot mor preparation than they realized. You may be one of those people who feel this way. I want to assure you that, with good guidance and training, swimming in open water could become something you are good at and really enjoy, for recreation or for competition.
I am confident this could happen for you too. As an open water swimming specialist, I enjoy guiding athletes in transformation from beginner to mastery every year.
This book is part of my response to the sad stories of swimmers who have entered open water swimming events they were not prepared for, resulting in unhappy outcomes. I have heard these stories from swimmers, from coaches, from families, and from race staff who had to come to the rescue. This book is a compilation of the topics I have discussed with countless swimmers who have come to me for help over the years, topics that cover virtually all the basic aspects of swimming and racing in open water. This book is a part of my effort to reduce the frequency of sad stories and increase the pleasant ones.
